I understand that finding off-campus housing for your student can be a stressful and daunting task, especially when there is a shortage of on-campus housing. But rest assured that with a few simple steps, you can ensure a smooth and successful transition to off-campus living.
First and foremost, starting your search early is crucial. This will give you ample time to explore your options, weigh your choices, and make an informed decision that best suits your group's needs. Don't wait until the last minute to begin your search, as this will only add unnecessary pressure and may result in settling for a less-than-ideal situation. Most properties will provide availability up to 90 days in advance, plan your search accordingly based on your move in date.
Secondly, solidifying a group of roommates who are fully onboard and cooperative is essential. Make sure everyone is on the same page in terms of expectations, budgets, and responsibilities, and communicate openly and honestly throughout the process. This will ensure a harmonious living situation and prevent any potential conflicts down the road. If co-signers/guarantors are involved please ensure they all communicate with one another and are also on the same page.
Thirdly, it is important to ensure that you are looking on the correct sites to reduce the risk of encountering potential scam artists. The last thing you want is to fall victim to a fraudulent listing or lose money to a scammer. Do your due diligence and research reputable rental sites, and always verify the legitimacy of a listing before committing to anything.
